12/04/13 - 8:41 a.m. Today I asked my girlfriend what you do with your past when your present gets awesome? And her answer was "You never escape the past. Its tendrils grip you. It's woven into who you are..." Blah blah blah. I stiffened, and I think she could tell something was up. This morning I'd started out in a euphoric mood. That was exactly not what I wanted to hear... I think the past is irrelevant. When you've got an awesome present, could anything even matter that happened before? It's not just that it's long ago and far away -- or even that's it's so long ago and so far away. The time and distance is a distraction, because the important point is that it is past. Not present. Not a time when you can do things in, get things, feel things. I think the best thing you can do is feel gratitude for the beautiful things in your now. And eventually all that beauty just crowds out yesterday altogether...
Here's a lovely quotes that's attributed to F. Scott Fitzgerald.
